Carburetor Air Box

by: Dave Schultz (BK)

Like many racecars, my black 65 Coronet had a scoop on the hood

And a Hole to feed the carb

But without an air box I was feeding the engine compartment air -- and not the carb

A 14" diameter 2" drop base interfered with the fuel regulator -- so I glued an adaptor that all auto parts stores sell to raise the air cleaner to inches. I used the 25000 pound glue that glues anything to anything.

I then put the bottom plate only on the carb and rolled 2 4" tall cylinders of play dough to place at the front and back of the plate. I then slammed the hood on the play dough spacer and then opened it. The cylinders were smashed down to 3.125" so I bought a 3" tall air filter element and duct taped it to the bottom plate and the entire outside. All that was then required was a little foam glued to the top for a complete seal.

We'll see how much time it bought me when I next take it to the track
