    Right with God
Thanks to online banking, barely anybody actually reconciles a checking account anymore. You know, instead of just making sure you have enough in your account, you make sure your bank account is right, that your entries match the bank’s entries.

Because of the diminishing use of the word, it might be tempting to overlook how often—five times in the following four verses—the apostle Paul uses some form of the word reconcile.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God” (2 Corinthians 5:17-20).

Maybe today you don’t feel reconciled. You don’t feel like your life is right. You don’t feel like your life matches God’s expectations.

Isn’t it good news then that God isn’t all that concerned about your feeling; he cares about fact. The fact is that by sending Jesus, God reunited us. When God looks at your account, he sees Jesus’ numbers—and you are reconciled.

There’s one more fact. We now get to tell others. Just like Paul, go out and implore people—beg people—to be reconciled too.
