How To & Technical Instruction White Papers THIS IS NOT A Q&A FORUM! USE THE GENERAL REPAIR OR RACING FORUMS FOR THOSE. In this forum are How To & Technical Articles. If you wish to submit a well prepared Step by Step "How To" article on a particular Mopar repair/restoration/upgrade topic -- create a new thread dedicated to it. Please use Descriptive Titles so that it is properly indexed at Google. We are only looking for complete and well prepared Step by Step articles on a technical subject. Please include photos (there are many free photo hosting services) using the IMG code. Please give care to creating in a readable (No Cap Lock and with proper white spacing) format. Questions and comments (and Thank You Clicks) on the How To article are welcomed. Some of the better Articles might later find themselves (with proper credit to the author) in the MoparWiki's Tech Article Section.

This tip can is an effort to help collect what we're still a little short on. If you have a spare $5 or more to help with the expenses, and you feel like this community has been worth it -- this tip can is the place to give that help.

Default Checking a Sure Grip

I've posted this in the past but here it is again. Ever come across a third member with a Sure Grip at a swap meet and it had a high price tag but no one could say if it was good or not or you don't trust their word? I've been burned before and didn't like that too much so I made these. Kind of a PITA to carry them around but dragging a parts wagon with ya makes life easier not to mention carrying a newly bought third member isn't exactly easier without a LRW

Take two axles and cut them about in half and weld T's on them. I used 1" mild steel bar stock 28" long and the axle stubs are 12" long. Make sure the splines on each side are aligned on the SG unit. The splines are not a single piece. If they are aligned, insert the T's all the way in on each side. Stand it up and step on the T that's on the ground and try to twist the top one. If it's good, it'll be tough to twist it. If it's easy, it needs work. If a cone type SG is real easy, it's most likely junk inside and opening it up is the only way to tell if it's repairable or not. These are not made to act as a one wheel wonder and if they are used that way, they will become junk in short order.
