How To & Technical Instruction White Papers THIS IS NOT A Q&A FORUM! USE THE GENERAL REPAIR OR RACING FORUMS FOR THOSE. In this forum are How To & Technical Articles. If you wish to submit a well prepared Step by Step "How To" article on a particular Mopar repair/restoration/upgrade topic -- create a new thread dedicated to it. Please use Descriptive Titles so that it is properly indexed at Google. We are only looking for complete and well prepared Step by Step articles on a technical subject. Please include photos (there are many free photo hosting services) using the IMG code. Please give care to creating in a readable (No Cap Lock and with proper white spacing) format. Questions and comments (and Thank You Clicks) on the How To article are welcomed. Some of the better Articles might later find themselves (with proper credit to the author) in the MoparWiki's Tech Article Section.

Default 16 Volt AGM Batteries

This is really a drag car topic

Race cars, especially those using high power mega-kabillion Jules ignitions like MSD's 7AL are often needing more battery than a 12volt -- or even a couple of 12volts. I run one of these 16 Volt AGMs in my Big Red Ram

NMCA's Fastest Street Car (and none of them really are) Magazine had a pretty good article on 16 Volt AGM batteries. I don't think they'll mind that I scanned it to share hear.

OK -- this conversation brought a conversation about how to deal with the 12V components -- now that these 12V batteries no longer have a separate 12V lug/post to them.

While there appears to be a debates that you need to do nothing -- I've heard enough stories of wearing out water pumps, fuel pumps, gauges, fan fires, etc running 16v -- or at least the 20V surge when initially powering the component.

So -- what would really help out is is someone could add to this thread a white paper and hopefully a scanned diagram on which, how and where to wire in 16V to 12V step downs.

Anyone up to the challenge?

I don't know enough about electricity to write a paper but why wouldn't a voltage regulator work? Or run two separate systems.....I would think the ignition system would perform well and would have all the voltage it needs without worry from anything else drawing from it.

I don't know if it's the brand you like but Kinitek still sells the dual post battery.

If I was doing this on my own or was asked to wire it up this is how I would do it.

Feel free to make any suggestions.
