Question A604 Tranny Problem:

1998 Caravan, 3.3 auto. We're heading to church this morning, stopped at an intersection, started out, when it shifted into 2nd, started to make a loud grinding/buzzing sound. Got immediately off the road. As soon as you put it in gear, it makes the grind/buzz, but has reverse w/o noise.

Is it toast or is it maybe the solenoid pack? I might add it has almost 180,000 miles on it. No hint of any problem at all.

Loud buzzing and whining is always the solenoid pack, usually it is clogged. We have finally found a company that offers performance parts for the FWD 4 speed trans, along with a perf solenoid pack, shift kits, etc, Level 10 trans look them up on google, need some more help give us a hollar.

I hope it's as simple as the solenoid pack, but I think it may be worse. Good luck!

The big thing that might tell is what garbage, if any, is in the tranny pan.

What's odd is it will go into reverse w/o a sound, and pull good.

What's the scoop on those upgrades?
