Here we are turning up Main Street in Cripple Creek... We were to display our cars for the Chili Cook Off This guy was the only thing bigger than the Prowlers in Cripple Creek... They saved us a spot to park the cars in front of the Fire Station and Police Station.. The Police chief let me climb up on his building to take pictures.... What a nice guy... Grant and Russell arranged the whole thing and it sure was grand... Little drinking, Little gambling, Lots of fun...

Roof top or ground level the Prowler sure is nice to look at.... Cripple Creek was having their Chili Cook off contest and had the streets closed for the event and the town asked Grant and Russell if we would show our cars for a while... We did, and answered tons of questions. Then went gambling as it is one of the few towns that has gaming in it in Colorado...

The sand art was real cool and Tom one of the artists said he had never seen a Prowler before but thought he could make a life size one out of sand.. Said it would take about 5 hours... onecatnodog

That's me John(onecatnodog)Collins on the left. Cripple Creeks Police Chief Gary in the middle. Grant(lawndog)Sutton on the right... Gary's and his wife Jan, not shown in the picture were very instrumental in having us at Cripple Creek and a BIG thank-you goes out to them... onecatnodog When driving in Colorado one must always be on the look-out for critters coming on the road... Not the case for this one... onecatnodog Time to get out of town, so off we go to see more views than one could possibly take with a camera... Most of my shots are taken while driving so that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.... onecatnodog

We pulled over to regroup the cars and to stretch out our legs as we made great time from Cripple Creek... onecatnodog We did see some examples of what a forest fire can do.. The Hayman fire happened about 6 years ago and burned trees that have been there for 100 plus years.. It's growing back but it will take a long time to do so... It was started when a love letter was burned by a forest worker in a fire pit southwest of Denver, Colorado on June 8, 2002. The largest fire in Colorado's history, hundreds of forestry officials and firefighters risked their lives to fight the fast-moving inferno, which caused nearly $40 million in damages, burned 133 homes and forced the evacuation of 5,340 persons. The Hayman fire would quickly grow to become the largest recorded wildfire in Colorado's history.
It was getting late and we were trying to get our guest back into town before sundown so we could break up into groups and eat... Still lots of beauty to be seen. onecatnodog Looks like we weren't the only ones driving the wheels off are cars... Check out this van...

Made it into town and some stopped for fuel and some stopped to eat.... While others got fuel I saw this husband and wife checking out the Prowlers so I went up to get a picture of his old fastback Cuda... We stopped a little way up the road for food, and for the first time ever I used up 2 sets of battery's in my camera... This was the longest day of our event as we left at around 7:00am and after our last fuel stop for the cars and something for us we got back to the hotel at 10:00 only to party in the parking lot... Next day it was Trail Ridge Road run... onecatnodog

Semi Sad Day as the Early Birds were loading there cars up and had to leave this beautiful Saturday morning.. The Early Birds had a special time slot and there event was started Sunday the 15th 4 days before the Main Event dates. It was planed out for those that wanted to travel over the weekend to save vacation days or days missed from work... It was another first as the Mile Hi Prowlers did what ever we needed to do and adjusted, and extend the event dates to accommodate our guests.. Who either came in early, or for the main event or showed late... I was told by a few that when I posted some of the Early Bird pictures that it moved them off of the fence to come and have fun.. Thank you all for showing Early/Late or for the normal Main date... onecatnodog Special thanks to our Mile Hi Prowler hired security guard for out side work only, along with the hotels security... Great job Steve!... We had many Mile Hi Prowler members stay at the Marriott Hotel even though some of us lived as close as 7 min away like Susan and I.. Some did it to help Carl out with his needed booked rooms and some did it for the late night parking parties... Chromer and Jack even took one day out of their busy schedule and was seen at the event on the Crazy Bridge photo shoot and stayed a night... Thanks for the support Guys and Gals
