  • Engine swap- Slant 6 to V8

Attn Mods: If this doesn't belong here, move it to the appropriate place. Thanks!!

So we brought home a parts car tonight that I am pulling the engine from to go in another car for my friend. No brakes but it runs.

Well we hook a chain to the suspension and I tell my friend to back it off the trailer. Chain comes loose and he is headed downhill, in reverse, with no brakes, FAST. :ROFLMAO:

He turns the wheel and hits a tree to stop the car. No problem.

I take my truck, pull the car back up, and disconnect. He now has the car running so he is going to drive it on up the hill to the garage. He goes to put it in drive but doesn't get it in gear in time before he goes back down the hill and hits the tree again.

I am laying on the ground laughing at him. My wife heard me all the way in the house.

Here is a picture of the car after I got it in the garage and the engine I am pulling.

318 engine is going to be cleaned and freshened up to go in a 71 Dart he has that is currently a 6 cylinder car. I will post pics as we go along.

The Dart is a clean little car that is going to be a driver. Just adding the cleaned up V8, painting the firewall, dual exhaust, rebuilding the front suspension and, of course, swapping in the V8 K frame.

          Got the engine out today.

Here are a couple of pictures. Not all because I'm having a heck of a time with download.

Just look at the size of my shaft. LOL

The exhaust gave me a little trouble until I got the Sawz All out.

I'm not sure what this part does. Probably not important.

My son sent this. Pretty accurate I would say.

            Unloading a car-redneck style
Get one expendable redneck. Put him in car with no brakes facing downhill.
Push car off trailer. Wave at expendable redneck as he goes by.

That chart should have 'moving stuff around or out of the garage to make room to work on things' lol

I got the car that the V8 is going in home today.

Here it is a nice little 71 Dodge Dart. Currently a slant 6 car. Soon to be a V8 car.

I will post more pics to this thread as I do more to the car.

Today I cleaned the V8 k frame, primed it, and painted it satin black. Sorry about the final picture. The flash and the lighting made it look washed out and I didnt know it til I had already closed up the shop and was in the house.

Remember these? This is still on my Valiant.

The gas gauge doesnt work so I took a peek at it. Lets just say I found some interesting wiring changes that I will repair once the engine swap is finished.

Had one of those stickers on my Dakota until recently.....it's been going away for a long time and once it got to where you couldn't tell what it was, I took it the rest of the way off.

Dont give up on me. I still have this car. LOL The weather has been crazy. I have a 4 day weekened this week so I hopefully will get more done. LOL

Of course, it is supposed to be 72 degrees on Friday so I see a bike ride since I just bought my wife another bike. (See picture)

This 6 cylinder was running warm on him so he says. I hope to get it fixed, check it out, and possibly sell it right out of the car before I pull it so we dont just dump it in a parts car.

Duster Dave rode around with one on his License Plate... Wonder if he got stopped by Tampa PO for obstructed license plate...LOL
