Car Builds (Progress Threads)This forum is dedicated to the following of legitimate restorations or rebuilding of Mopars -- from start to finish. So -- if you intend to do a major rebuild of your Mopar, and will be photo documenting it -- you are welcomed to start a thread dedicated to documenting the building process. While it is preferred to start with the teardown, starting at the beginning of the rebuilding will be acceptable. You must continue to update the thread with progress. Those cars that are started or finished, with photo documentation from the beginning of the process, are welcome to start a thread of their rebuilt -- starting at the beginning.
The MoparStyle Community is free for anyone to use. Some of the revenue to pay the expenses comes from advertising, Sponsor Vendors, and Premium Membership upgrades (FOR PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP -- PLEASE USE PAID SUBSCRIPTIONS IN YOUR UserCP INSTEAD OF THE TIP CAN). This tip can is an effort to help collect what we're still a little short on. If you have a spare $5 or more to help with the expenses, and you feel like this community has been worth it -- this tip can is the place to give that help.
In September 2003, I took Dallas to the Monster Mopar Weekend. I owned the Texas Big Bird at the time -- and it was being run as Exhibition. I ran the Big Red Red back then -- but is was a much different car. On the way back from St. Louis -- Dallas asked me if we could build him a car to race. He was 15 and not doing well in school so I made him a deal that I'd do that but take it away if he didn't get his grades up.
A couple of days later I bought a 72 Demon that had been a race car all of its life -- and was being converted to drive on the street. It still had its 1972 Texas State Inspection sticker on the windshield. I made the deal and we brought it home.
Dallas sanded the floor and trunk pans to bare metal, holes were welded up, the car was set out for a Chrome Moly Cage, the 360 engine and transmission freshened up, and the cage/floor/trunk painted with POR15 Black.
Car is finished, cleaned, and raced for a year. FIrst event out was the Ford FE Nats -- which had all makes for NMC -- and he won NMC against all of the Cougars and Mustangs and the quickest RT .002. -- and the 2004 Texas Outsider's Championship.
