Car Builds (Progress Threads)This forum is dedicated to the following of legitimate restorations or rebuilding of Mopars -- from start to finish. So -- if you intend to do a major rebuild of your Mopar, and will be photo documenting it -- you are welcomed to start a thread dedicated to documenting the building process. While it is preferred to start with the teardown, starting at the beginning of the rebuilding will be acceptable. You must continue to update the thread with progress. Those cars that are started or finished, with photo documentation from the beginning of the process, are welcome to start a thread of their rebuilt -- starting at the beginning.

i had a 1978 magnum in the 1980's it was one of my favorite cars. I now have a 1979 dodge magnum GT. I have had it for several years hoping to rebuild it. It has/had 360 in it, I replaced the distributor and fixed the radiator, rebuild the carb. Had it running good and then the trans went out. So it was time for a total resto/mod. I have stripped it down and just about got it ready for paint. My plan is to put a 5.7 HEMI in it.

Step back and compare all that you'll need to come up with for the hemi, been there done it, just allow open access to your bank account. I'd be happy to build an a500 pushbutton OD trans for you.

Making progress on the Magnum. I cleaned the inside of the hood and trunk with metal prep, wet sanded the hood with 320 on the bottom and let dry. Tapped off all the holes and poured Pores 15 inside it. About a pint and then ran out. Ended up pouring about a pint of paint in and swashed it around. Then removed tape and wiped down all the runs. I had a big mess but I think I got good coverage inside the hood.
I have tried to post picks but have not been able to get get them to post. I will post some picks after I figure out how.

With how much 5.7s are to build and rebuild for any amount of power, I'd look at the 360 for the restomod in terms of FI power motor. A 5.7 is still going to be a pushrod motor and you can still put MPFI on a 360.
By the time you bought the 5.7, you could have rebuilt the 360 for more power than it has stock. By the time you made it run, you could have made the 360 fuel injection work well with the car and power.
If you've already got one it'll take a lot of work but you can use the work to trade for money, of course no matter what you do you'll have to work out the trans.
To post pics imageshack is a pretty easy way that I've used for a long time. Others use similar sites to do the same thing. The premium membership offers the ability to post attachments, but non-premium members can't view those any larger than the thumbnail.
