Default Superbird Serial Numbers Sorted and Uploaded to Web.

Greetings All,

I just finished uploading a sorted version of the Superbird NASCAR Serial number list to my website. It contains all the listed cars in numerical order by VIN code. Also highlighted are the duplicate numbers and "missing numbers" from the runs of vins that appear to have been assigned to the Superbird project.

I have offered (what are almost certainly erroneous) speculations as to how the apparent mistakes were created.

Also, to help clear up some questions, I have included the cars Joe Ward and I compiled that were not included in the list.

I have not, and won't be, adding any specific information about the present day condition of any cars in particular. All I am interested in is more clearly defining the actual production number.

http://www.brcook.com/id17.html
is the link. Please be patient. It may take a while to download - that page is 2000 lines of text long.

As always, I welcome comments and additional information. If you find any errors in the data please let me know.

Thanks,
Brennan R. Cook

I don't know what "basic info" you have on these cars:

info on 166156

B5/white bench, four speed, 14" rallyes, dual manual mirrors, N95 emissions, AM radio, tach. build sheet exists.

info on 166206

B5, black buckets, center console auto, 15" rallyes, driver remote mirror, non tach. build sheet long gone but have fender tag.

info on 168776

999/black bench, 4 speed, 15" rallyes, tach, AM radio, driver remote with matching passenger. build sheet exists.

Greetings All,
There is a possibility that some of the duplicate vins represent two authentic cars accidentally given the same code. One of those duplicate vin numbers is RM23U0A171684. The first time it is car number 1057. The second time it is car number 1316. Car 1057 was received on 12-1-69 and shipped out 12-2-69. Car 1316 was received on 12-5-69 and shipped 12-5-69. At first I thought this was just a typo on the list.

When looking through another list of vin numbers I found RM23U0A171684 was a Petty blue, black bucket interior, manual transmission with no console. Then a car with RM23U0A171684 showed up on Ebay with a photo of the fender tag and it is a Petty blue, black bench interior, automatic transmission with obviously no console. It is possible that someone played musical transmissions and seats with this car over the years but I am not sure. Switching something back to a column automatic and bench seat... I guess I would if it was the original configuration. Anyone know of these car(s)?

Thanks pettybird for the additional info.
Brennan

Does anyone know about these cars? Is this another factory mistake?
