PRICE LOWERED TO $7500
I am reducing my collection of 25 cars as I'll soon be moving to a smaller home without the garage space I currently have, and I have an immediate need for the cash.
This is an excellent condition 2-tag Dodge Diplomat with a rare (for Diplomat -- most of which were 318ci and 225ci) 360 ci. I am the second owner, and have a copy of the original 1978 Missouri title Used to transfer into my name. The car spent it's life in St. Louis/St. Charles before I bought it.
The original owner added a cruise control and a hitch -- good for a small trailer, boat, or SeaDoo. The rear suspension (stance and ride) appears to be like new, so I'll assume nothing big or heavy was ever towed with this car.
I keep the car in the garage at my lake house -- as a second car. I swapped out the "Lean-Burn" system for an Edelbrock Performer intake, Edelbrock 750 CFM carb with e/choke, Mopar Performance ignition, Accel coil and plug wires, and Edelbrock AC idle solenoid. I've done this on quite a few Mopar 360s -- as they flat run a ton better.
The car runs, drives, and rides great -- and I know of nothing needing repair. Motor is quiet and responsive (without any bog), and the transmission shifts are crisp. I changed the tranny fluid -- and it looked good. I changed the oil and cut open the filter -- and all looked well there too. AC was recently serviced.
I have the old Lean Burn system that I can put in the trunk if the buyer wishes. I feel like they're useless and gutless.
To me, the 78 and 79 boat-tail Diplomats and LeBarons were the best looking cars of 78 and 79 -- save maybe the Magnum. This is a fine example. I spent years looking for the one that would satisfy me -- and I wasn't disappointed when I went to St. Charles to get this one -- and still not disappointed today.
I would get into this car and drive it to anywhere in the US with the confidence I'd have driving a new car.

I've owned the car for over a year -- and it is dependable enough to be kept at our 2nd home 80 miles away as a second car. I'd be surprised if this car ever spent a night of its life outdoors -- or dirty. It appears to always have had the best of care taken of it. It is clean and rust free, and a true survivor. Everything, save the hitch, tires, and cruise control (and my performance lean burn conversion) appears to be original. I've inspected the underside of the car and have seen few better 31-year-old rust-free Texas cars. I've inspected closely and on a lift -- and see no evidence of the car ever having a panel replaced or the pain touched up. I firmly believe that this was a well cared for car that was lucky enough to avoid all idiots on the road.
For transporting, I've used Cruiser Transport the last four times I've had cars shipped to me -- and find them to have been both inexpensive and dependable in my transactions. You can email them at cruisertransport@aol.com to ask for a quote to ship to you from 77406. I have no affiliation with them other than to have been surprised how cheap they shipped -- and to have never had an issue with a car they transported to me.
I am a private individual with the car's clear Texas title in my name, and the car is sold "As-Is-Where-Is" -- and without warranty.
I have represented this car honestly and to the best of my ability, but inspections are welcomed and encouraged.
Sorry -- but the only trade I'm looking to make right now -- is for cash. I need the space and the money or I'd be keeping this car.
